What kind of a competitor are you? Some of the nicest people I know are the worst competitors ever! To them winning is everything and they will do whatever it takes to say that they have won. Competitiveness sometimes really bring out the worst in people. It's often those friends that you don't want to be seen with at sports games - especially if their team is busy losing... They jump up and down, blood red in the face, waving a fist in the air, shouting - usually at the referee who gets blamed for all sorts of things, including incompetency. Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition I say, but is it really worth it getting your blood pressure up & your heart racing? What an experience! Being at the first Cape Town World Cup game at the Greenpoint stadium with 48, 000 something other spectators was truly an unforgettable experience. The excitement - almost tangible, definitely contagious! It didn't matter that the game was somewhat uneventful, the atmosphere was alive with opportunity. With all the different nations currently visiting our country, we are almost constantly aware of our diversity - our different cultures, languages - even our facial features. But then I realized how similar we actually are. As human beings we are the same, with the same needs, the same feelings, the same ambitions and the same hopes & dreams of winning ... Even though we are disappointed about not going through to the next round, we were given the opportunity of a life time - let's make the most of it! I really don't like that Murphy guy ... He knows how to pull out all the stops some days - especially on days that one oversleeps! Then his law "if anything can go wrong, it will" rules the day. When you first get a glimpse of him in the morning, it's probably best to jump straight back into bed & hide under the covers for the rest of the day. But not today. Today I will look him square in the face & tell him to take a hike. I am much too excited about going to the first World Cup game in Cape Town on Friday & I won't allow him or anyone else to damper my spirit! Time - it's just one of those luxury commodities that I never have enough of! I always envy people who have time to wonder and ponder about things - don't they know that time is money? After endless time management courses, I still struggle to gain control over "my" time. I tell myself that I am not unique and that it is a universal problem, but time is the evil I fight a fierce battle against every day. I often stand in awe of how little influence 'time' has on small children - it is a precious gift that they don't even know they have! Time is of the essence with everything I do.
