They say you should count sheep if you can't fall asleep. Luckily falling asleep has never been a problem of mine, it's more the sleeping through until the alarm goes off that keeps on sidestepping me ... It all has to do with cats and the nocturnal mischief they get up to, as well as the over-active imaginations of young children. At least my sleeplessness has a known cause - with a known effect of grumpiness the next morning! Apparently insomnia is 41% more common in women than in men. This to me makes a lot of sense as women multi-task all through the day and therefore it's more difficult to "switch off" all the different parts of the brain at night. If only we could have gone into hibernation like some animals and sleep all through winter. Now that would have been grand in this icy Cape Town weather!
